Newborn photography portraits

I hardly remember the first 3 months of my daughter life, it was all such a blur of love, sleeplessness and nursing! Children grow and change so quickly and the rate of change in the first few weeks and months, is truly incredible. The tiny hands and floppy heads, the dark hair that ends up blonde, the funny noises they make; it’s all so wonderful and new, but changes so quickly.  My natural newborn photography captures those unique details of your baby in the first few weeks of their life, before they start to grow and change forever.  My style is natural and unposed, I don’t use props, costumes or bean bags, I simply want to capture your new family truthfully and give you something you’ll cherish forever.

Newborn photography: Your Questions and Answers

How long does the newborn photography session last?

My newborn sessions are up to 2.5 hours long. They are longer than my other sessions, so we can go at your pace and keep everything relaxed and calm. Naps, nappy changing and feeding can all happen as and when it needs to, I will work around your baby and you.

When is the best time during pregnancy for a newborn photography session?

Ideally the first 3 weeks of your baby’s life are the best time to capture the newborn photographs. I would advise booking me in when you are still pregnant to avoid me being booked up and we can pencil in a session based on a week or so after your due date.

What if I can’t make the original booking?

Babies will arrive when they are good and ready, regardless of whether there is a photography session booked or not!  If your little one ends up coming earlier or later than planned, just let me know and we can rearrange the date.  I will do my absolute best to rebook you when they are 3 weeks or under, but occasionally this may not be possible. I am also aware having a new baby is incredible, but is also a very tiring and emotional experience. Once your baby arrives, if you end up feeling that the session is too soon, then just let me know and we can rearrange the date. The important thing is we do it when you and your baby are feeling ready.

Where do the newborn photography sessions take place?

I photograph both outside on location or I can come to your home.

At home: Photographing at your home will produce wonderfully intimate and candid newborn photography. It also means as new parents you have everything you need around you and you don’t have the stress of getting yourselves and your baby to a studio or location. I am there to not only photograph but to also make the whole experience as calm and relaxed as possible.

When is the best time of day for a newborn photography session?

When photographing outside the best time is around sunrise or sunset to get soft, dreamy lighting which will make your photographs extra special. However if these times are a struggle to make with a new baby, let me know and we can look at alternative times.

If we are photographing at your home, then morning is normally best, while the sun is still high in the sky.

What happens before the photography session?

To help me plan for the session and ensure you get the right style of portraits for you, I will ask you to fill out a questionnaire to find out more about you and your family and uncover any requirements you have.

We will also have a preparatory video call before the session, where we can run through any questions you may have, talk through how I run the session, discuss styling and most importantly so you can meet me virtually.  Meeting (virtually) prior to the session will help you get to know me, I’m pretty easy going and this should help put you at ease when we meet for the actual photography session.

What should I wear to the session?

Neutral, light tones work best for the baby when photographing them. I will have a preparatory call with you to talk in detail about clothing, colours and styles that work well for you and your little one. I will share a style guide with you to help you when thinking about what to wear and what will make the photographs really pop.  The main thing though, is that you and your baby feel comfortable in what you are wearing as that will shine through in the photographs.

Who should come to the session?

Whoever you would like to be there with your newborn. This can range from mother and baby, both parents, or the whole family including siblings. Let me know who you need there and we’ll make it happen.

How long after the session will it take to see the photographs?

They will be uploaded to an online gallery within 6 weeks of the session.

How much does it cost?

My packages start from £450, for my full price list please contact me below.

I’m not sure yet if you are the photographer for me?

If you’re unsure and would just like to find out more, I’d be happy to have a chat to understand a bit more about what you are looking for and explain more about my services and let you see if I’m a good fit for you.
